Maryland Area Naturist Association

Being a Baltimore Nudist, Facts from MARNA

MARNA began as an interest group of friends and colleagues interested in family friendly and nonsexual nude recreation. From 1999-2008 we met at facilities in Dundalk , Woodlawn, Elkridge, private facilities and homes to swim play volleyball and commiserate in the Nude. In the Summer of 2009, we expanded to other local athletic facilities and camps that sought to host us, to smashing success!

We’re a proud member of the AANR: American Association for Nude Recreation, the organization founded in 1931 that is the credible voice of reason on issues relevant to nude recreation in appropriate settings, and we proudly assume that role for the Baltimore area. We’re a diverse group with members spanning the Christian, Jewish, Catholic and Pagan communities. Nude recreation is growing !

Membership in AANR is nominal and is a way to support MARNA and also gain privileges to visit hundreds of nudist locales across North America .

Nudism is recession proof and so is MARNA – there are currently no club dues; guests pay “ala Carte” , a nominal admission to each event. In April, 2008, a New York Times article estimated that nude recreation was a $440 million a year industry!

Nude recreation enthusiasts comprise a cross section of society, with all ages, careers and socioeconomic levels. Because of the proximity of MARNA locations to areas where young people congregate in greater Baltimore, such as the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, Canton, Federal Hill, and numerous institutions of higher learning, the age range of 35 -65 you may see at many nude beaches and resorts is far younger at a MARNA swim, and many more 20 somethings are coming out to join us. Our events are very accessible to non-drivers , tourists and the budget minded and located close to Baltimore ’s Metro and Light Rail and Hostel lodging facilities.

Activities at MARNA events include swimming, volleyball on the ground and in the water too, hiking, and consuming good food! We’re fond of pizza in the winter and are happy to patronize local small businesses to deliver.

As one small business, we like to help others. We allow vendors at our events to sell goods and services for nudists or anyone else, such as health and beauty aids, lotion, sandals, artwork, decorative shirts, jewelry, and blankets.
